Kick your smoked ham up a notch with a glaze using our favorite bourbon: the 1856 Original from Holladay Distillery! Perfect for holidays, special occasions, or anytime you want to impress.
Ingredients
For the Ham:
- 1 spiral-cut ham (we used a Hormel Spiral Cut ham)
- Smoke ‘n Magic Pork Rub
- Aluminum Foil
- Aluminum baking pan
- Wire rack
For the Old Fashioned Glaze
- Pre-packaged honey glaze mix (usually included with the ham)
- 2oz bourbon (we prefer Holladay Distillery’s 1856 Original)
- 6 shots of orange bitters
- 1/2oz cherry syrup
Instructions
- Prep the Ham
- Unwrap the spiral ham and discard the packaging. Set aside the included honey glaze packet for later.
- Place the ham cut-side down on a wire rack set inside a baking pan. This allows heat and smoke to circulate evenly while catching any drippings.
- Season the exterior generously with Smoke ’n Magic Pork Rub, coating all exposed surfaces.
- Cook the Ham
- Preheat your oven or smoker to 325°F
- Cook the ham at 325°F, planning for approximately 15 minutes per pound until the internal temperature reaches 140°F
- About halfway through the cook, loosely tent the ham with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning and keep it moist
- Pro Tip: Use an instant-read thermometer to monitor doneness accurately. We recommend the ThermoWorks Dot to know exactly when it’s time to glaze
- Make the Old Fashioned Glaze
- While the ham continues cooking, prepare the glaze.
- In a cocktail shaker or small bowl, combine:
- The reserved honey glaze mix
- 2 oz bourbon
- 6 dashes of orange bitters
- ½ oz cherry syrup
- Mix well until fully combined.
- Glaze and Finish
- Once the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F, remove it from the smoker or oven and carefully remove the foil tent
- Pour the glaze evenly over the top of the ham, allowing it to run down into the spiral cuts.
- Use a basting brush to work the glaze into every nook and cranny
- Return the ham to the smoker or oven uncovered and cook for an additional 5 minutes, just long enough for the glaze to set
- Slice and Serve!
- Remove the ham from heat, slice along the spiral cuts, and serve warm.
- Enjoy the rich, smoky flavor paired with the subtle sweetness and bourbon notes of the Old Fashioned–inspired glaze.
